San Ignacio, Belize and other surrounding communities.

Wayne State University students will collaborate with ProBelize and the community hosts of ProWorld Service Corps for a short term service learning program. The primary project focus will be on health care, including rural health outreach campaigns, health education, research, and additional projects selected by the community. This travel program gives students hands-on experience in a developing nation. After this experience, students will have a better global outlook and to perceive their own lives from an introspective angle, eventually learning how they can help make a change.

“Belize is a peaceful and complex country rich with cultural diversity and stunning natural beauty. Just south of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula along the Caribbean coast, this English speaking country offers an uncommonly broad variety of cultures from which to experience and learn. In addition to its bio-diversity and geographical beauty, Belize also boasts a rich ethnic and cultural mix. As the longest sustained democracy and politically stable country in Central America, Belize increasingly relies upon eco-tourism as a source of income.”

“The ProWorld mission is to empower communities, promote social and economic development and cultivate educated compassionate global citizens.” By partnering with ProWorld, Wayne State students will be able to enter an already established program and become health care volunteers in Belize.
