Semester at the EurAm Abbey — France

The EurAm Center is working with educational partners around the world to develop a unique concept in study-abroad learning for university students: "The Abbey: A New School of Thought." The Abbey is intended to be the landscape for an educational journey and an innovative way of approaching cultural immersion. Focusing on the needs of globally ambitious undergraduates, the Abbey is committed to delivering excellence in international education across the entire academic spectrum. The Abbey debuted in September 2002 with an initial class of 40 students, taught by United States and European Union faculty teams. The Abbey’s innovative interdisciplinary approach to global learning challenges the legacy notion that students often jeopardize college credits and/or becoming fluent in a foreign language to experience cultural immersion.

Located in the heart of the Loire Valley, Wayne State University students have the opportunity to study at the 1000-year old Abbey for a semester. Sponsored by the Office for Global Education, this exchange program allows students to study for a semester at the 1000-year old EurAm Abbey in Pontlevoy, France. Freshmen and sophomores may receive General Education credit. Courses include: History, Art, Literature, Political Science, Geography, Sociology, Economics, Survival French, and French.

All courses are taught in English, except for the French language class you may choose to take. You will learn more French than you will believe just because of the people in the Loire Valley who will be your neighbors.
