The Polytechnic
University of Puerto Rico is a private,non-profit institution
of higher education founded in 1966. It is the nations
largest private, Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI)
specialized in engineering and associated fields. PUPR
is an urban university located in the heart of the financial
district (the so-called Golden Mile) of the capital
city of San Juan, PR. Since its inception, PUPR has
specialized in the technological professions of engineering
and land-surveying, and since 1995, architecture. It
also offers graduate and undergraduate programs in business
administration. In 2001 a campus in Miami, Florida was
established, and an additional one in Orlando in 2003.
The College of Engineering was established in 1974
and enrolls approximately 4,600 students; of those 4,200
are undergraduate students and 400 are graduate students.

The College
has departments of Geomatic Sciences, Civil and Environmental
Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical, Computer
Engineering and Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering
and Chemical Engineering. The civil, environmental,
industrial, electrical, and mechanical engineering programs
are ABET accredited. All courses for which students
register must be approved in advance by Dr. Gerald Thompkins,
Associate Dean for Student Affairs, College of Engineering. |
