Bridging the African and European continents, Spain
has a long history of multiculturalism, which has greatly
influenced its thriving arts community. Come spend summer
2007 in Madrid, the capital of Spain and a contemporary
European hub. Even though Madrid has state-of-the-art
transportation and cyber cafés, its old world
charm shines through in its long afternoon siestas,
its warm and friendly people, and its world-famous museums
and palaces celebrating Spain’s history and culture.
Students are encouraged to take advantage of the many
historical and architectural treasures located in Madrid
and its neighboring cities and provinces. Madrid is
an ideal starting point for day trips to fascinating
destinations as well as travel to any region or corner
of the country, as well as to visit other parts of Europe.
|
| Enjoy Spain's gradually escalating nightlife, from a leisurely stroll, or el paseo, through the main streets, to fiesta time, then work your way up to la marcha, or good fun. Flamenco dancers and bullfighters provide spectacle as the people of Madrid wait for the Spanish sun to go down and give way to rich dinners and endless Spanish nightlife.
In cooperation with the Universidad Nacional Educación A Disctancia and Universid Autonoma, this Study Abroad program will feature lectures, discussions, films, and music, as well as educational excursions to some of Spain’s most important artistic and cultural centers. The dynamic influence of the many cultural groups on Spanish society will provide you with a range of opportunities for exploring this extraordinary cultural heritage.
