ED 5998 or ED 7998 (2 credits, applying toward the student teaching requirement).
Upon completion of about 10 weeks of student teaching, as per the requirements of the Office of Student Teaching, you'll experience student teaching abroad for 1 to 3 weeks, depending upon the program arranged.
While abroad, you'll visit a variety of school programs, and wil be placed in one school for an intense personal observation and "fun" teaching experience. The teaching is in English to students who understand and speak English on a working level. Lessons include “music” in America, “sports” in America etc. THIS IS NOT STUDENT TEACHING, IT IS AN EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE. You'll spend one to two weeks in a country, and are then encouraged to travel leisurely for a week once the program is completed.
You'll be expected to submit a photo journal or power point presentation of your experience in order to receive a grade of “S” for the coursework. ALL REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENT TEACHING MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO DEPARTURE. Student teaching portfolios will be completed prior to departure, or upon return from the study abroad experience.
