How do I get started?

How do I get started?

Step 1. Learn the basics of studying abroad.

  • Meet with a study abroad advisor, speak with a faculty leader, or browse the Study Abroad website to find answers to your initial questions. You can schedule an appointment to meet with an advisor by signing up through STARS, sending an email to studyabroad@wayne.edu, or calling 313-577-3207.

  • Join a Study Abroad and Financial Aid Drop-in Session, held bi-monthly during the academic year. No appointment necessary. See Announcements for date, time, and location info.

Step 2. Explore your options.

  • Consider your goals for study abroad – academic, professional, and personal.

  • Discover the programs Wayne State offers in the Find a Program search. You can search by term, country or region, and keyword.

  • You may also look into non-WSU programs if you are not able to find what you are looking for through WSU.

Step 3. Apply!

  • If you have chosen a Wayne State sponsored program, complete the online application for the program. Pay attention to application deadlines!

  • The WSU application requires an unofficial transcript, emergency contact info, and a non-refundable $50 application fee.

  • Apply for a passport. See the Study Abroad Office passport photo services

  • If you have chosen a non-WSU program, apply directly with the program's institution or organization. You will need to complete the Consortium Agreement and turn it in to the Office of Financial Aid, regardless if you receive financial aid.
