Mexico: PEPE Summer Program (Programa de Español para Extranjeros)

The Spanish Program for International Students "PEPE" (by its acronym in Spanish) is a cultural immersion program that was created in 2015 by the University of Guadalajara (UDG), in which the participants develop and improve their linguistic skills in Spanish while they live and experience Mexico's cultural and artistic diversity.
Since its first edition, PEPE has become an excellent platform to achieve international and intercultural learning and to get closer to the traditions and customs of Mexico and Latin America.
*$2,800.00 USD PEPE program fee waived for WSU students.
Items included in waived fee: room & board, workshops, tandem activities, class materials, cultural activities, transportation to activities, pick-up and drop-off (airport-hotel-airport), and certificate of participation.

*Additional students from WSU can benefit from the current efforts of collaboration with APLU institutions. This means, students that were not chosen to participate under the agreement, from WSU, can still apply for a 50% discount on the cost of the program.

In addition to the WSU program fee, students will pay current published tuition and fees to WSU for 3-6 credit hours at the appropriate level through the normal tuition payment process. The Office of Study Abroad and Global Programs reserves the right to cancel this program, revise its offerings, or to make any adjustments to the preliminary cost estimates due to conditions beyond its control.
The $150 Program Fee, payable upon acceptance to the program, is non-refundable. The fee is payable directly to the Office of Study Abroad and Global Programs. Information regarding payment of this fee will be provided to students after they have applied and been accepted into the program.

Academic Focus: Spanish Language and Culture
The courses you choose will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by your department and the WSU Office of Transfer Credit Evaluation to determine WSU course equivalency.
Prerequisites and Eligibility:
Undergraduate and graduate Wayne State University students are eligible to participate as well students from other universities and colleges interested in receiving college level credits. You must also:
- Be a student in good standing with the University and with the home college/department.
- Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA or nomination by major department
- Be a Sophomore standing or higher.
Selection of applicants is done on a rolling basis; students are evaluated and considered for admission throughout the academic year. You will be notified of your acceptance status by the Study Abroad Programs Office. If you wish to participate, you will be required to sign and return the Decision Form and Waiver and Release Statement to accept the terms of the program and secure your place.

What happens next?
After you submit your WSU application, transcript, and $50 application fee, we will review your application for eligibility. If eligible, we will submit your nomination for the exchange to our partner/host university. After we receive confirmation of placement from the host university (during the host nomination period only), we will send you an acceptance notification with the placement decision and additional instructions. If you are accepted, you will have 2 weeks after receipt of your acceptance notification email to confirm your placement and pay your non-refundable deposit of $150.
